Birth of a Vision

Calvary Chapel of Battle Creek began in September 2007 with a Monday evening Bible study of a small group of people interested in the study of God's Word and contemporary worship. We are an outreach ministry of Calvary Chapel of Kalamazoo Valley where the vision for this ministry was birthed.

Rick Gorham believed that God was calling him to start a work in Battle Creek that would emphasize the distinctives that make for a Calvary Chapel. Few churches teach the Bible line upon line, the whole counsel of God, and there appeared to be a need for this type of ministry in Battle Creek.

Statement Of Faith

WE BELIEVE the Bible to be inspired (God-breathed). It is the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; Galatians 1:11-12)

WE BELIEVE there is one God, eternally existent in three persons; Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Who are of one essence, equal in power and glory (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17, 28:19; John 1:1, 10:30). He is the Creator (Genesis 1:1; Isaiah 40:28, 44:24), Redeemer and Sovereign Ruler of the universe. He is perfectly holy, just and loving (Isaiah 6:1-4; Numbers 14:18; Psalms 89:14; Ephesians 2:1-8), while reserving judgment on the unredeemed (Romans 2:5).

WE BELIEVE in the deity of Jesus Christ (John 1:1-3, 10:30-33); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23; Luke 1:34-35). His sinless life (Hebrews 4:15, 7:26,); His miracles (John 2:11); His vicarious and atoning death (1 Corinthians 15:3; Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 2:9); His bodily resurrection (John 11:25; 1 Corinthians 15:4-7), His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); His personal, premillennial return to earth in power and glory (Acts 1:11; Revelation 19:11-16).

WE BELIEVE in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation, because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; that all are justified by God’s grace through faith alone, in the shed blood of Jesus Christ unto salvation (John 3:16-19, 5:24; Romans 3:23-24, 5:8-9; Ephesians 2:8-10; Titus 3:5)

WE BELIEVE in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit, by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life (Romans 8:13-16; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19-20; Ephesians 5:18). The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convince men of the reality of sin, righteousness and judgment (John 16:8-11). The Holy Spirit never bears witness of Himself, but always points to Christ (John 16:13-15).

WE BELIEVE in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto resurrection of life, and they that are not unto the resurrection of damnation (John 5:28-29).

WE BELIEVE in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-27; Galatians 3:26-28).
